| Abstract | Alexander Kluge’s first feature film, Yesterday Girl, tells the story of the 1966 case of "Anita G.". Based on this film, the book examines the legal relationships in Kluge's stories: between the facts and the case, between the law and the narrative, and the investigation that ultimately defies judgement. In this context, the book focuses on the film-maker's university "back story". Alexander Kluge studied law in Marburg and Frankfurt, enrolling himself in the university system in 1950 and in procedures that he follows in the institutional setting as an articled clerk: in the Wiesbaden magistrates' court and the Frankfurt regional appeal court, in the juvenile detention centre, the regional court, and the commercial court. In these settings he is confronted with incidents and lawsuits that precede his cinematic and literary works. For Kluge's characters stand before the law, following the poetics of the case rather than its resolution. In seinem ersten Kinofilm "Abschied von gestern" erzählt Alexander Kluge 1966 den Fall "Anita G.". Ausgehend von diesem Film stellt sich die Frage nach den Rechtsverhältnissen in Kluges Geschichten: vom Sachverhalt zum Fall, vom Gesetz zur Erzählung, von der Ermittlung, die dem Urteil schließlich widersteht. Interessant ist in diesem Zusammenhang auch die universitäre "Vorgeschichte" des Autors und Filmemachers. Mit dem Jura-Studium in Marburg und Frankfurt schreibt sich Kluge 1950 in die universitären Abläufe ein, denen er als Referendar institutionell folgt: im Amtsgericht Wiesbaden und im Oberlandesgericht Frankfurt, in der Jugendstrafanstalt, im Landgericht und der Kammer für Handelssachen. An diesen Stationen begegnet er Vorfällen und Prozessen, die seinen filmischen und literarischen Arbeiten voran gehen. Denn Kluges Figuren stehen vor dem Gesetz und folgen eher einer Poetik des Falls als seiner Auflösung. |
