| Abstract | This dissertation presents an intergenerational comparative analysis of diaries and letters regarding time structures of girls out of five generations within one family. As the protagonists represent respectively one political system (Prussia, Wilhelmine Empire, Era of National Socialism, System of the German Democratic Republic and reunified Germany), the egodocuments allow to expose interrelations between individual action, family traditions and social changes in time structures. Most important theoretical reference is the sociological time concept by Norbert Elias. Applied methods are content-analytical approaches and objective hermeneutics. The results of the analysis show a temporal and spatial structure of conditions concerning the process of growing up. One specific family model appears which persists over five society systems. Within this family model all the girls shape their daily lives in a highly sovereign and autonomous way of time planning. A main feature of the way of living of that family is the manner of living and working in a housing and farming community which is includes much more people than the nuclear family. These communities become independent from society and are characterized by rather cyclic than linear time concepts. Finally there are hypotheses provided concerning conditions forwarding the development of children and adolescents regarding time quality and time competence in an era of changes in living conditions: Girls and boys should not be the object of planning and scheduling by the adult world. They should be enabled to develop core competencies for a good life by exploring their personal time and freedom. Die vorliegende Dissertationsschrift präsentiert eine intergenerativ-vergleichende Analyse von Tagebüchern und Briefen zu Zeitstrukturen von Mädchen aus fünf Generationen einer Familie. Die Protagonistinnen vertreten jeweils ein politisches System (Preußisches Reich, Wilhelminisches Kaiserreich, Zeit des Nationalsozialismus, System der DDR, wiedervereinigtes Deutschland), sodass anhand der Ego-Dokumente zeitstrukturelle Zusammenhänge zwischen individuellem Handeln, familialen Tradierungen und gesellschaftlichem Wandel herausgestellt werden können. Als wichtigster theoretischer Referenzpunkt dient der prozess-soziologische Zeitbegriff von Norbert Elias. Methodisch kommen inhaltsanalytische und objektiv-hermeneutische Verfahren zur Anwendung. Im Ergebnis der Analyse zeigt sich als zeit-räumliches Bedingungsgefüge des Aufwachsens eine fünf gesellschaftliche Systeme überdauernde Grundfigur des familialen Zusammenlebens, innerhalb derer Mädchen fast gleichbleibend souverän und eigenzeitlich ihren Alltag gestalten. Kennzeichnend für die Lebensform der Familie ist das Wohnen und Arbeiten unter einem Dach und das Zusammenleben in einer über die Kernfamilie hinausgehenden Haus- bzw. Hofgemeinschaft, die sich - bis hin zum Selbstversorgerhaushalt - von der Gesellschaft relativ unabhängig macht und eher zyklischen und ereigniszeitlichen als linearen Zeitkonzepten folgt. Entsprechend werden Hypothesen bezüglich dessen abgeleitet, was für Heranwachsende angesichts sich wandelnder Lebensbedingungen im Hinblick auf Zeitqualität und Zeitkompetenz entwicklungsfördernd ist: Mädchen und Jungen sollten nicht durch die Erwachsenenwelt verplant und vertaktet werden, sondern in Freiräumen und Eigenzeiten Grundkompetenzen für ein ´gutes Leben´ ausbilden dürfen und können. |
