T1  - Dynamics of the innovation process: The linear-recursive model of innovation and the implications for leadership and self-regulation
N2  - Both practitioners and researchers alike assign considerable importance to innovation. However, the process of how innovation unfolds over time is still not well understood. It is the aim of this dissertation to introduce an elaborated picture of innovation processes over time and to discuss the implications of the dynamics of the innovation process for individuals working in innovative contexts, that is, leaders and team members of innovative teams. The first paper of lays the theoretical and empirical groundwork of my dissertation in demonstrating that within the boundaries of the gradual development of innovation activities over time innovation processes are recursive and highly dynamic. These dynamics make the innovation process a challenge for everyone involved in it. In the second and third paper of my dissertation, I discuss this challenge in greater detail for leaders and team members of innovative work teams. Thus, with this dissertation I do not only to give a more elaborate picture of how innovation projects unfold over time, but also describe the challenges attached to the innovation process and give first answers to the question of how individuals involved in this process may be able to master these challenges.
N2  - In Forschung und Praxis gleichermaßen wird Innovation eine erhebliche Bedeutung beigemessen. Jedoch ist das Verständnis über den Prozess, wie sich Innovationen über die Zeit entwickeln, noch nicht ausreichend. Es ist das Ziel dieser Dissertation, ein wohldurchdachtes Bild von Innovationsprozessen über die Zeit zu entwickeln und die Auswirkungen der Dynamik des Innovationsprozesses für Personen, die in einem innovativen Umfeld arbeiten – d.h. Führungskräfte und Teammitglieder von innovativen Teams –, zu untersuchen. Der erste Artikel zeigt die theoretischen und empirischen Grundlagen meiner Dissertation auf, insofern dass innerhalb des Rahmens der graduellen Entwicklung von Innovationsaktivitäten über die Zeit Innovationsprozesse rekursiv und hochdynamisch sind. Diese Dynamik führt dazu, dass der Innovationsprozess für jeden, der daran beteiligt ist, eine Herausforderung darstellt. Im zweiten und dritten Artikel meiner Dissertation untersuche ich diese Herausforderungen für Führungskräfte und Mitarbeiter in innovativen Arbeitsgruppen genauer. Mit dieser Dissertation gebe ich also nicht nur ein umfassenderes Bild davon, wie sich Innovationsprojekte im Laufe der Zeit entfalten, sondern beschreibe auch die Herausforderungen, die sich aus dem Innovationsprozess ergeben, und gebe erste Antworten auf die Frage, wie Personen, die in an diesem Prozess beteiligt sind, diese Herausforderungen meistern können.
